1. Призвал Господь однажды сто ангелов к Себе,

По лесенке на землю отправил их с небес.

И принести оттуда Господь им повелел

Всё лучшее, что только найдётся на земле.

2. По лесенке прозрачной, как звёздные лучи,

Спускались осторожно сто ангелов в ночи,

И разошлись, простившись, по весям кто куда

Исполнить послушанье, что Сам Господь им дал.

3. Вот девяноста девять вернулись точно в срок

И принесли немало они земных даров,

И ангел запоздалый принёс подарок свой:

Лежала на ладони слезинка у него.

4. Склонив главу смиренно, он Господу сказал:

Увидел я, как грешник молился и стенал.

Молил он о прощеньи и плакал о грехах,

И вот его слезинка теперь в моих руках.

5. Была она похожа на райскую росу,

И радовался, глядя Господь на ту слезу,

И молвил в умиленьи Творец и Царь миров:

- Мне грешника слезинка дороже всех даров.

The ladder to the ground sent them from heaven.

And bring from there the Lord told them

All the best that there is on earth.

2. The ladder transparent, as the star beams,

Cautiously down a hundred angels in the night

And parted, parting, trough villages who where

To fulfill the obedience that the Lord Himself has given them.

3. Here ninety nine returned just in time

And they brought many of the earth's gifts,

And the angel brought a belated gift:

Lying on the palm of your hand, a tear from him.

4. Bowing his head humbly, to the Lord he said,

I saw how the sinner prayed and wept.

He begged forgiveness and wept over the sins,

And here it, a tear now in my hands.

5. It was like heavenly dew,

And rejoice, the Lord is looking at the tear,

And said in the tenderness of the Creator and King of the worlds:

- I was a sinner, a tear more than all the gifts.
